Kenya Bryce Homes Update November 2015 |
|||||||
The Kenya Bryce Homes Program has been in operation for four years. Beginning with five Homes in November of 2011, the program has expanded as donations have been provided by Lighthouse and Understand The Times readers from around the world. There are now 25 Bryce Homes in Kenya. Included in this number are four leaders and their families who assist us to administer the Bryce Homes Kenya Program on a monthly basis. Each year, I make a personal visit to visit all the Bryce Homes and meet with the leaders to discuss how we can improve the program. Since the establishment of Bryce Homes Kenya, it has been our goal to assist widows and orphans so their quality of life, both physically and spiritually, will be on the road to improvement. In order to meet this goal, we have provided food, housing, clothes, latrines, and water collecting and water purification systems. In addition to these physical needs being met, the leaders who are working with us there are Kenyan pastors and thus are able to share and teach the Word of God to these widows and their children. The primary objective is to provide all this in the name of Christ fulfilling the biblical admonition to come alongside widows and orphans. The churches we work with in Kenya are not financially able to administer such a program without resources coming from some other source. It has also been our goal to have all our recipients of the program work toward self-sufficiency. While this is very difficult to accomplish in rural Kenya because of extreme conditions, we are working toward this goal in small steps. Two years ago, we implemented what we call the Small Business Program (SBO) providing seed funds for widows to establish small businesses. This has proven to be very successful. Please watch the short video explaining the SBO program - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id8juHK7KSM Over the past few months, we have concentrated on the establishment of the “Garden Program” so that each family can play a role in providing food for themselves. Kenya has fertile soil that will produce a good supply of the basic food requirements. This also provides an opportunity for families to work together with the goal of providing for themselves without being dependent on welfare assistance. The number of other families in need in the area where we are working is endless. While we cannot help them all, we can help some. The time has come to expand our horizons and share the good news of the Gospel with others. God has provided an excellent team to implement this expansion. The average cost to sponsor one family is approximately $100 per month. If you have ever thought about investing in this kind of ministry we would welcome you to partner with us. |
