Is mankind on the verge of an evolutionary leap that will produce a super race? There are some who believe man is in the process of this happening right now. What does the Bible teach? Is man on the way up, or is he on the way down? Will this super race of humans become a reality? Or could the idea of evolution be a great delusion that Satan has used to blind the minds of countless people all over the world into believing that man can become God? The basic assumption behind Darwinian evolution leads to the idea that mankind is at the top of the evolutionary pile. Check out the Darwinian tree of life - humans are at the top of the tree and a single cell is at the bottom. If evolution is true, then it stands to reason that the next stage of development will be for humans to evolve to become superhuman. Evolution theory also promotes the idea that man is capable of playing a role in advancing and directing the evolutionary process in the future. This could be through genetically engineering life or by finding ways and means through technology to human development. An article titled “Superhumans: Chips Inserted in Brains will give us Mind-blowing Abilities Within Years” [1] provides interesting insights from various individuals who say that mankind is on the verge of taking a giant step of evolution and soon will be elevated to a higher dimension of consciousness never before seen on planet Earth. Linking the human brain with electronic chips and computer technology, they say, is the key to the development of a super race. While Darwinian evolution is described by evolutionists as a natural process that operates gradually over millions of years of random chance events, according to these so-called experts, evolution has only just begun. Now that humans have intelligently attained high levels of technological achievements, the next step for evolution is when humans become superhuman by their own direction. They say this could happen in a blink of time through the use of technology. Here is how the “Superhumans” article begins: Speaking at Lisbon’s Web Summit, Bryan Johnson, the founder of Kernel – a start-up researching the possibilities of microchips being inserted on the brain – says unlocking the true potential of the mind is the “single greatest thing” humanity can achieve. Kernel’s first step is to design chips that can help fight disease, but then it hopes to evolve the brain to offer superhuman abilities.[2] While we can only speculate on whether Bryan Johnson’s claims are credible or not, there are some comments we can make from a biblical perspective that will shed light on the direction this technology seems to be headed. We know man is created with an ability to imagine. It is also a fact that history shows us whatever he imagines, he seems to have the ability to do. Perhaps, linking computers and electronic chips with human brains is only a matter of time. But there is a spiritual side we need to understand. Evolutionary thinking has the potential to fulfill Satan's lying promise in the Garden of Eden that man can become God (Genesis 3:1-5). Mankind is vulnerable to this deceptive suggestion. Based on this biblical insight, it is easy to imagine that humans will accept the implantation of electronic chips into their brains connected to computers given the promise of the possibility of evolving into a super being. Such an advanced super being would fulfill Satan’s promise to fallen man in the Garden of Eden. I have followed many wild claims made by humans in the past. At the time, they seemed to be nothing more than science fiction. However, as the years have passed, what was once deemed science fiction has become the reality of our day. Will the dawn of super humans linked with computers happen in our day? Based on my understanding of the Bible and what I am witnessing in the world today, I believe it will. And while inventions of the past have had, in most cases, the potential of being used for either good or evil, I also believe this “new” evolutionary idea will be doomed, like the tower of Babel, to serve for man’s destruction. Consider, for example, the possibilities of downloading data into the human brain that could affect feelings and emotions, beliefs and convictions, choices and actions. It could be a great tool for the world dictator to come. We should, for a moment, take a look at the advances that have already been made. The implantation of microchips is already being practiced for identification purposes in animals and on a limited experimental scale in humans. Chips are now in our credit cards, and the focus is turning more and more to the formation of a worldwide cashless society. The implantation of chips in humans is being looked at as the most feasible solution. Consider, also, the following from the Book of Revelation: And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:16-17) This mark in the right hand or the forehead could indeed involve the use of a chip. As for whether or not a microchip in the brain will successfully be incorporated into the processes of the brain, only time will tell. But we are presently witnessing an avalanche of ideas on how we can open up our minds to a fuller potential. The New Age movement has been leading the way in this through Yoga and eastern-style meditation, but this has now flooded into the church. The legalization of hallucinogenic drugs could also play a factor, and may be a fulfillment of Revelation 9:21 that states, “Neither repented they of their . . . sorceries [drugs].” One thing is becoming increasingly clear with each passing day—there seems little doubt that we are in the eleventh hour, and the culmination of end-time events may come down upon us quickly. While these events will unfold at the appointed time, it is not the time for the church to sleep but rather to be like the five wise virgins who took oil with their lamps to be ready for the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1-13).
