REJOICE IN THE LORD |
||||||||||||||
"Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, Rejoice." Philippians 4:4 This Scripture in Philippians was penned by a prisoner who for many years had been mobbed by riotous crowds, had suffered brutal beatings and had been stoned by those who sought to destroy him and the Gospel he preached. The Apostle Paul goes on to say in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Whether we find ourselves in a situation, which is bright as a sunny day or as problematic and dim as darkest night, we are to rejoice. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. Joy is an awareness of God's supernatural love for us. Joy in the Lord is continuous, based on the relationship we have as His children, while happiness may come and go relative to our circumstances. God's Word commands us to rejoice even during those times when the going gets rough and there are no visible means of support. "Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation." Habakkuk 3:18 In Hebrew the word "rejoice" means to jump up and down, and "joy" is to spin around (hilarious, jubilant). We can weep over circumstances but at the same time we are to be mindful that our mighty and powerful God, who loves us with a true and everlasting love, is faithful and able to supply all of our needs through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rejoice in the Lord… always!
