God's Word For Today |
|||||
Luke 7:28 “For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Comment: Jesus clarified that while John the Baptist was the greatest in the Kingdom compared to all those who lived during Old Testament Times, those who were and are born again from that time on are considered even greater. This has a lot to say about heaven. It has really nothing to do with who we are but entirely with who Jesus is. it is all about how we got there. Without the grace of God, no one would be saved.
Application: Stop and think about the implications. It is by grace we are saved and not by works. God is still saving sinners who will be in heaven with the Old Testament saints including John the Baptist. While it seems that God does not favor one person over another, we do know that there will be a system in heaven of rewards given. It is very interesting to note that Jesus indicates that New Testament saints will receive greater status than even John the Baptist. Truly this is the grace of God even beyond our understanding.
