2 Timothy 3: 1-4 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.
Paul wrote to Timothy outlining many of the signs that would characterize the last days. While there are many indications that Paul’s comments are absolutely true for the times in which we live, notice that these negative attributes are found within what can be called the two brackets of “love.” Simply speaking, men will love themselves rather than loving God. This is perhaps the best way to describe what is going on in the world today with all ages in all places.
Application: Fallen human nature has always been the result of following Satan and not Jesus. Of course this has been the way of human behavior since the fall in the garden of Eden. However, the scriptures point out that in the final days of time things will not get better. We are living in such a time period now showing that the signs of the times are lining up as we approach the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
