God's Word For Today |

Ezekiel 18:26-28 "When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and dies in it, it is because of the iniquity which he has done that he dies. Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he committed, and does what is lawful and right, he preserves himself alive. Because he considers and turns away from all the transgressions which he committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die."
These verses found in the Old Testament book of Ezekiel lay out the wonderful plan of salvation. There is a trend today in the emerging church that makes the claim that studying the Old Testament is a waste of time and an obstacle for reaching the postmodern generation. Not so according to the Bible. The plan of salvation is found in both the Old and New Testaments. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for teaching and correction.
Application: Christians and unbelievers need to consider the words found in these verses in Ezekiel and understand what God is saying. The only way that anyone can be declared to be righteous is to put on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. The wage of sin is death. Accepting Jesus Christ as Savior is man’s only hope. For an unbeliever, confessing one’s sins is the stepping stone to accepting the Savior, Jesus Christ, who has provided the way for salvation. Death is the final bell and after death there are no decisions that can be made.
