God's Word For Today |

Ephesians 2:8-10 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
These verses lay the very foundation of biblical Christianity. It is by faith alone in Jesus Christ. Therefore, salvation is by trusting in Jesus alone and understanding who He is and what He has done. Biblical Christianity denies that works of any sort determines whether or not you spend eternity in heaven. This does not mean that good works does not play a role in the way we are to live here on this planet. We are to treat others the way we want to be treated. We are to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as we naturally love ourselves. We should have compassion for the needy and especially widows and orphans rather than assemble massive financial kingdoms for ourselves.
Application: What is the basis of your belief system if you call yourself a Christian? Do you believe that works play a role in determining whether or not you will go to heaven? Do you believe there are rules and regulations that have been founded by your church that determine your status? According to the words of Paul, it is by faith in Jesus Christ alone and the finished work He did on the cross. If you do not believe then you need to reconsider your spiritual journey. You do not inherit the right to be a born again Christian genetically nor can you earn your way to heaven by good works.
