Zechariah 7:9-10 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion everyone to his brother. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother."
What is the true test revealing a compassionate heart? Obviously, according to Zechariah inspired by the Holy Spirit, treating others with compassion and mercy, is the key. He also points out that there should be a special place for widows and fatherless children in everyone’s plan for living. Worse yet, humans often choose to treat those in dire need with disdain and walk away.
Application: It is by natural nature that humans are self-centered. Men and women tend to do what is right for themselves which usually is selfish. Worse yet, humans have a tendency to take advantage of others in order to get to the top of the pile. God’s way is the reverse of man’s way. Take the time to think about what you can personally do to reverse the selfishness of human nature and find a family in need you can help in some way.
