God's Word For Today |

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 "But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
Paul, writing to the church at Corinth laid out the biblical model for giving. An important foundational principal of Christianity is the act of giving to a fellowship of believers or other ministries. While it is a fact that the local church one attends should receive support, many are finding today as churches become more and more apostate, it is not possible to maintain their support that is spent for heretical purposes. Nevertheless, Christians should find places to invest funds for the Lord’s work. Giving should always come from the heart. Christians do not give for the purpose of gaining righteousness nor should they want recognition in some public way. Giving should come as a natural consequence of following Jesus and serving Him.
Application: When we think of giving, Christianity is riddled with many wolves in sheep’s clothing who are nothing more than charlatans and business gurus. Before giving to any church or Christian organization, every believer should hear personally from the Lord. What are the motives of those who are asking for your money or property? Are they building their own kingdoms or are they serving those in the family of God? Are they genuinely presenting the true gospel, the true Jesus and led by the Holy Spirit? If not, then find a church that or an organization that you feel has the integrity to be good stewards of the funds you are giving.
