God's Word For Today |
|||||
Matthew 26:40-41 "Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
The battle for every Christian can be defined and supported by the words Jesus proclaimed: “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Paul made this clear as well when he said: ”For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members” (Romans 7:22-23). This struggle is a fact of life for every one that is a child of God. The only way to have victory is to be led by the Holy Spirit.
Application: Every Christian should pause and think about these words proclaimed by Jesus and Paul. Being a Christian is a daily battle. In order to understand the battle we need to be obedient to the Lord in order to counter temptation that comes from Satan. Also, a Christian should not only be very familiar with the Word of God but they should spend time in prayer and communion with God.
