Job 2:3-6 "Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause. So, Satan answered the LORD and said, Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, rand he will surely curse You to Your face! And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life."
This portion of scripture reveals an interesting scenario that occurred in the past in the spirit world when God and the devil held a conversation. It seems that God permitted Satan to physically attack and torment Job. It is also interesting that God indicates that Job was a faithful servant. The fact that this happened may cause some to question, why would God allow this to happen. While it seems that Satan was allowed to torment God’s servant, he was not allowed to take Job’s life.
Application: The keys to life and death are in God’s hand. This is clearly what we see from the scriptures we are discussing in the Book of Job. The fact that God would allow Satan to do what he did to Job only shows that God works all things together for good for those who love and serve Him. While God is sovereign, there may be times in our lives He allows Satan to influence our lives, only with the knowledge the harm that appears to be happening actually produces good in the long term.
