God's Word For Today |
|||||
Psalm 103:8-14 ,10-11 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will He keep His anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear Him. For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
The Psalmist reminds of the imaginable mercy of God. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His mercy to those that fear Him. In this context, fearing God does not mean to be terrified of Him. The word fear in its original meaning relates to a reverence and trust for God. While God is God, the Creator also came to this earth and became man in the flesh in the form of Jesus. Jesus experienced all the same emotions and temptations that humans experience. As the Psalmist wrote: “for He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.
Application: It is important to look at Jesus Christ with the understanding that Jesus is not a tyrant who monitors every move we make so He can evaluate whether we deserve to Go to heaven. The fact is that there is not a single person on earth who deserves to go to heaven based on works of any kind. Salvation is a gift, not by works lest any man should boast. Salvation is based on the finished work Jesus did on the cross.
