God's Word For Today |
|||||
1 John 2:15-17 "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."
This portion of the Bible sets the standard for what it means to live a Godly life. We all have to make choices. Do we love the things of the world or the things of God? John makes it crystal clear. It is a choice that we have to willfully make every day because we are constantly bombarded by things that we are exposed to by our senses. While we have to live in the world we do not have to choose to be obsessed by the world.
Application: The bottom line is this: either love the world or love God. This does not mean we need to isolate ourselves from the world, but we must ask ourselves on a daily basis what is the most important for us. We all have the tendency to be drawn away from the love of God by focusing on the wrong things that appeal to our senses. It would be well to assess our lives on a daily basis and endeavor to improve.
