1 Peter 3:14-16 "But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed."
As a Christian, we should fear God and never man. When we stand up for God, then it is almost certain we will be ridiculed by man. It is important to always be ready to give a reasonable reason why we believe and do this with and meek attitude that is not overbearing or condescending. While a believer may anticipate that opposition comes primarily from those who do not believe, as more and more apostasy unfolds, it can be expected that attacks from believers may even be more intense.
Application: I f you stand up for biblical truth, expect there to be opposition from believers and unbelievers. The bottom line, believing in God and His Word, is not popular in the world or the church. Remember, life as a believer, is not a popularity contest. Being obedient to the Lord is what is important. Each evening, before you fall to sleep, think of ways you could improve your walk with the Lord and ask for help to avoid those things that led you astray. No one is perfect as we walk on the road of life.
