1 Peter 5:8-11 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
Living in a fallen world where Satan’s agenda is to destroy human beings we must must be on guard. Believers are especially not immune. Peter states that Satan is like a roaring lion, seeking anyone whom he can devour. Peter also proclaims there is a remedy to stand up against Satan’s devices and that this remedy is found in the Word of God. Christians need to know the Word of God and be constantly aware of the many temptations there are to be receptive of Satan’s devices.
Application: Some years ago, while in touring a wild animal farm in South Africa I took a photo of a lion lying beside the road from inside the window of a car. The lion seemed to be sleeping and therefore not a threat. The person who was driving the car told me that one week before tourists in this same area opened the door to take a close-up photo and never got back in the car. The sleeping lion became a roaring lion and ruthlessly devoured the tourist. For me this was a living example and illustrated exactly what Peter was writing about. We should all be reminded that Satan wants to destroy us.
