God's Word For Today |

Matthew 6:5-8 "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore, do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him."
Jesus explained how to pray and compared to ways – man’s way verses the instructions on how to pray God’s way. Religious leaders often like to draw attention to themselves putting on a public show. The way to pray, according to Jesus, is to find a secret place and carry on a conversation with God that will be heard by God and not try to influence others by a hypocritical show of spirituality. Application: All of us need to be reminded. It is not wrong to pray in public such as prayer meeting with other believers, but we should never pray for the sake of drawing attention to ourselves. Every child of God has equal access to the throne of God. In fact, every human being, believer and unbeliever has the opportunity to pray and ask God for forgiveness. Prayer is like being able to pick up the phone and contact the God who created the universe at any time of the day or night. What an amazing gift God has given to mankind.
