Psalms 118: 4-6 “Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever. I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?”
The Psalmist testifies of a situation in his life when the LORD took him out of a distressful situation. Obviously, this situation was the result of a conflict with some other person or persons. He called upon the LORD and the LORD set him “in a large place”. Rather than fearing man, he reverenced and feared God.
Application: There are many basic truths found within this short portion of scripture. First, it is far more important and productive to fear God than it is to fear man. While often humans attempt to threaten or manipulate others revealing their pride and desire for power, trusting in the LORD and following God will be the key to resolving the problem. When the Psalmist called upon the LORD, he set him in a large place. Further, he stated, when God is with you, no attempt by human beings to inflict harm can have any effect.
