John 6:28-29 “Then they said to Him, what shall we do, that we may work the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."
There are two kinds of people in the world who claim to believe in God. There are those who endeavor to please God based upon their works and there are those who realize that works can never please God because it is God’s work upon the cross that is the only work that counts towards a place in eternity. In other words, it is not possible for works to earn any form of righteousness with God. He is the righteous one who provided the only way for salvation. As the Bible states our works are as filthy rags compared to the plan God has provided for mankind. No amount of religious effort will count.
Application: Bible believing Christianity is a unique belief system. There are even many who profess they follow Jesus Christ when they do not follow the words He proclaimed. There is absolutely nothing that any man, women or child can do to earn their way to heaven. If this was so, then the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made upon the cross was futile. There is another side to this important principle as well. This also means that choosing to believe that works provide the way to heaven is exactly what Satan, the god of this world wants you to believe.
