God's Word For Today

Matthew 4:8-10

"Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' "

Comment:

Satan is god of this world. His strategy is to offer his kingdom to whoever will fall for his lie. Many throughout history have fallen for the lie. Jesus was tempted by Satan following his 40 days in the wilderness. Jesus answered Satan with the Word of God as Jesus is God.

Application:

While Satan challenged Jesus, we should recognize that this same lie is used to challenge men, women and children today. Power and control along with human greed is one of the ugliest qualities of human nature. We need to remind ourselves daily, even as believers to be submissive to the will of the Lord and to recognize that without His grace we would be hopeless.
