God's Word For Today |
|||||
Amos 4:13 "For behold, He who forms mountains, and creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is, and makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth--The LORD God of hosts is His name."
Comment: God chose Amos as a prophet to Israel. Biblical historians believe that he was a poor farmer from an area occupied by the Philistines approximately 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. His calling was to warn Israel about the judgment that God was going to bring upon them for bowing down to idols. He was reminding them that the one who made the mountains could just as easily level them. He is the Creator but He is also the Judge of sin.
Application: Israel needed a wakeup call and God used a poor farmer by the name of Amos to send the message. The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). Truth is truth and God will grant grace and time for repentance but when the cup of iniquity is full, the Creator becomes the one who sets the record right. Today we are facing a similar situation that the Children of Israel were facing in the days of Amos. History repeats itself according to Ecclesiastes 1: 9-11. Judgement can and will happen at any time.
