Mark 8:29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
Comment: Jesus asked Peter to
verbally identify who He was. Peter answered correctly. However,
later we see that Jesus said that Peter would deny who He was, the
Son of the Living God. Jesus also said to Peter: “Get behind me,
Satan, in reference to Peter. Roman Catholics claim that Peter was
the first pope of the church.
Application: Who is the foundation
of the church of Jesus Christ? Could it possibly be Peter as claimed
by the Roman Catholic Church or is Jesus himself the true “corner
stone.” Common sense would indicate that faith in Jesus alone is the
true foundation, not some fabricated belief system masquerading as
Christianity.
