Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Comment: The God of the Bible is close to those who are broken-hearted. This is because life is not an easy road. Often when individuals are devastated by sickness and death, their hearts are softened and open to the comfort there is from the Holy Spirit. Application: In my own life I have found that the Lord has shown His mercy in my life when I have been walking through the shadow of the valley of misery and death. In fact, I can relate to the exact times and recall now how the Lord met me when I was in a deep valley of despair. This goes for when I was not yet a believer and also when I was a believer. This should be very insightful to family members who are wondering if God is speaking to their relatives at times of grief.
