Matthew 6:19-20 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Comment: One of the major ambitions for most who are human is to collect things. This of course means possessions and most importantly money. There is an expression that we often use – he or she has “old money.” This is money that has been accumulated over the years by families who seem to be gifted in using their minds to collect cash. As the scripture states, such wealth is only temporal and amounts to nothing in heaven. The wealth that we will have in heaven cannot decay, be tampered with or stolen. It is eternal wealth that comes from being a servant to Jesus here on the earth in the present.
Application: The application is simple: think about your personal life. Are you storing up treasures on earth during this life or are you laying up treasures in heaven? If you are, where are you in life and what can you do with the time you have left to change your present status?
