God's Word For Today |

Luke 18:11-14 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess. And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner! I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Comment: One of the most profound statements found in the New Testament is located in the above portion of scripture. Many who were once humble and had an understanding of the grace of God forget about their humble beginnings and count themselves worthy of praise and honor amongst their own colleagues. This warning is a sobering reality and should be take very seriously by many who have made their way to the top of the ministry pile. Without mentioning names, take a moment and think. The Bible states that pride comes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall).
Application: Everyone should do a reality check on a daily basis. Without Jesus Christ we are nothing. To think that Christianity cannot get along without us is delusional. Those who are not believers also need to take this premise seriously. Humans are as nothing before God almighty.
