God's Word For Today |

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." Comment: Paul makes it very clear that the greatest possession that any believer can have is love. While listing several of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, Paul counts them as nothing compared to love. Perhaps another way of saying this is to quote Jesus Himself. He said: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22: 37-40). Application: Sometimes we can think we are walking the walk, but without knowing it, we lose our love – our love for God and our love for others. Christianity is full of bumps and bruises. When we are bumped and bruised it can have an impact on the way we walk. We should always be willing to examine our lives and adjust. Forgive others and carry on in love.
