Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera of Mexico City exhorted the people of his county to walk with Christ – with a particular emphasis on the Eucharist – in order to address the country’s problems. During Mass on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Cardinal Rivera said the celebration and adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist must become a daily activity for the baptized in order to be able to confront the calls for justice and dignity in the country.“Mexico and our city are hungry for leaders and politicians who look beyond partisan interests and seek the common good, as well as for business leaders who create jobs and at the same time offer just pay,” the cardinal said. “There is also an urgent need for people who want to work and not only seek a position to earn a salary.”
The cardinal called on all Catholics in the country to take up the challenge of the New Evangelization and commit to building a more unified, brotherly and just society.
“Open your hearts to the presence of Christ and put Jesus at the center of your personal and community lives, and live the Eucharist bearing witness to the love of God,” he said.
He invited the faithful to allow Christ to satisfy their hunger, so that “joyful at his presence,” they may “live as true adorers of God, sharing the Bread of Life that is Him, in order to satiate the hunger of those who work for a better world and are seeking God.”
