Australian Customs and Border Protection Services announced it will soon deploy a new border clearance system that supports biometric eGates, according to a report by CIO.
The announcement follows a controversial report by The Australian which revealed that an error in Australian Customs’ intelligence sharing resulted in a convicted terrorist to successfully flee the country. Last month, Federal Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Scott Morrison announced that the Australian government will spend $700 million over the next six years to significantly update the nation’s border management system.
The system will scan all people entering the country against a biometrics database to confirm that they do not have any undeclared criminal convictions.
