A CHILLING new world order began to emerge today as Turkey’s hardline president Recep Tayyip Erdogan turned his back on the EU and America and cosied up to Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
The Islamist leader called the Russian despot his “friend” and called for increased cooperation between Ankara and Moscow as part of a “new page in bilateral relations”. His comments will alarm Turkey’s NATO allies and demonstrate yet further how far Western relations with the key Middle Eastern country have declined in the aftermath of the failed coup.
