Canadian author and environmentalist Naomi Klein, known for her opposition to capitalism and corporate globalization, is scheduled to join a Vatican committee that was formed to draw attention to a conference on the environment being held in Rome this week. Klein’s most recent book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate, explores the relationship between economic powers and the environment.
The People and Planet First conference is organized by the Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace and by Catholic groups and will bring together Church leaders and scientists.
In a recent encyclical about the environment, Pope Francis wrote passionately about the world’s moral duty to save the Earth and move away from business systems that pollute.
