February 28 - After touching your junk, TSA now wants to scan and harvest your DNA
Article: Technology And Global Monetary System
As if it's not
enough for the TSA to feel you up at the airport, now they're
experimenting with rapid results
DNA scanners that can scan and analyze your DNA using just a drop of
saliva. Spit at the TSA agent who is molesting
you, in other words, and they can
use that saliva to scan your DNA and then store it in a government
database.
Why would they want to do that? We can only
imagine. Remember, it was Alex Jones who broke the story
about hospitals secretly taking
blood
samples of babies and handing them over to the federal
government
for use in a national genetic database (http://www.prisonplanet.com/newborn...).
Now that
the TSA is
experimenting with portable DNA
scanners, their real agenda becomes apparent:
They will use airport
security
checkpoints to harvest DNA from the public in order to build up
their government "bio bank" database of stolen DNA.
Of course, they will assure the public that they aren't
storing the DNA information ...and the naked body scanners don't
store images, either. Oh yeah, and the TSA's security procedures
make
air travel
safer, too, if you can believe that. Our source for this
story is a report called "Genetic Patdown" published at TheDaily.com
(http://www.thedaily.com/page/2011/0...).
That story reveals that a company called NetBio manufactures
the portable DNA scanning devices.
That same story also reveals that the
TSA
rolled out these DNA screening devices without
even checking with the
privacy
committee of the DHS. Jim Harper, who serves on
that committee, is even quoted in the story saying, "We're plunging
into the unknown here."
And what's the limit for all these privacy invading searchers,
anyway? Where does it end? Can the TSA demand
your blood, your
saliva,
or even your sperm for its tests? Is it soon going to be a condition
of flying that you hand over your bodily fluids to the U.S.
government so they can determine whether you might be a "genetic
terrorist?"

February 25 - Farrakhan's Nation of Islam to Argue UFOs Are Real
Article: Rising Interest In The Supernatural
The Nation of
Islam, long known for its promotion of black nationalism and
self-reliance, now is calling attention to another core belief
that perhaps isn't so well-known:
the existence of
UFOs.
When thousands
of followers gather in suburban Chicago this weekend for the
group's annual Saviours' Day convention, one of the main events
will include a panel of scientists
discussing worldwide UFO sightings, which they claim
are on the rise.
"There's enough
evidence that has been put before the world and public," Ishmael
Muhammad, the religion's national assistant minister, told The
Associated Press. "There have
been enough accounts and sightings and enough movies
(documentaries) made, I don't think you would find too many
people that would call it crazy."
During last
year's Saviours' Day speech, Farrakhan for the first time in
years discussed in detail a vision he had
in Mexico in 1985 involving an object he calls "the wheel."
Using charts, photos and drawings, he spent almost four hours
describing how he was invited aboard and heard Elijah
Muhammad speak to him. Farrakhan says that experience
led
him to inklings about future events.
Farrakhan, 77,
has said the wheel, with its
great capacity for destruction, contains the "wisdom to purify
the planet," but has harmed no one so far. He also
claimed there have been governmental attempts to cover-up proof
of the wheel, which he says many call UFOs.
Some experts
have made comparisons to the Biblical
concept of Rapture, which teaches believers will be taken up to
heaven, while everyone else will remain on earth for a period of
torment, concluding with the end of time.
"It is written, that these things would
happen," he said about Scripture.
"We should prepare for such calamities."

February 27 - Rocket fired from Gaza hits Israel, no casualties
Article: Wars And Rumors Of Wars
A rocket
fired from the Gaza Strip hit Israeli territory
on Sunday morning, raising Israel's alert level but causing
no damage or casualties, according to
Israel's
military
and police.
The latest rocket, which the military's
spokeswoman said struck a field in the Eshkol region in southern Israel,
comes after a string of Israeli air raids targeting
militant training camps across the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.
The military said the attacks
"targeted a number of terror hubs... in response to recent rocket fire into
Israel."
The air raids came after
tensions rose along the Israel-Gaza border this week following clashes in
which an Islamic Jihad gunman was killed and a rocket attack on the Israeli
city of Beersheba hit a house but caused no casualties.
It was the first rocket to reach the city
since the devastating offensive Israel waged against Gaza December 2008 to
January 2009, prompting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
to warn the territory's militants not to "test" the
Jewish state. Police spokesman
Micky
Rosenfeld
said Sunday that the
country's alert level had been raised in response to the renewed rocket fire
and regional instability.
"The
security examination was undertaken after the new Palestinian rocket fire on
Sunday and because of the continued unrest in the Arab and Muslim world,"
he said.

March 1 - Evangelicals take to Twitter to debate the doctrine of hell
Article: Emerging Church
Rob Bell didn't win an Oscar
on Sunday, but his name trended alongside the likes of James Franco, Colin
Firth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale after rumors about the evangelical
pastor's new book on heaven and hell spread across the blogosphere. The book
entitled "Love Wins: A Book
About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived"
won't hit shelves until March 29, but that didn't stop a group of
conservative bloggers from speculating about its contents.
Justin Taylor, vice
president of editorial at Crossway,
wrote a blog post
suggesting that Bell had become a universalist and was
moving "farther and farther away from anything resembling biblical
Christianity." (Universalism asserts that all people will be saved and that
an eternal hell is not a part of God's plan for a new heaven and new earth.)
In response, Pastor John Piper issued a tweet that linked to the post and
added, "Farewell Rob Bell," suggesting that such a position disqualifies
Bell from Christian fellowship. Neither Taylor nor Piper have read the book
in question.
Their questions bear a
striking resemblance to the questions raised by Bell in a
now-viral video
trailer
for "Love Wins". In it,
Bell asks: Will only a few select people make it into heaven? How does one
become one of these few? Is Ghandi really in hell? Will most of humanity be
damned to hell? Is the gospel good news or bad news?
At this point Bell's
official response to these questions remains unclear. Some have speculated
that with endorsements from popular theologians like Eugene Peterson and
Greg Boy, it is more likely that Bell has adopted a
view called "conditionalism," which holds that the unsaved will ultimately
cease to exist rather than suffer eternal torment in hell. Just the fact
that a variety of terms are getting tossed around the blogosphere reveals
the diversity of the Christian tradition regarding the doctrine of hell,
a diversity too often brushed aside by Reformed theologians like Piper whose
definition of Orthodoxy remains rather narrow.

March 1 - 'UFO' Lights Up Brazil Skies
Article: Rising Interest In The Supernatural
A
UFO spied in the skies over Sao Paulo has all of Brazil buzzing.
The amateur
footage, shown on
Brazilian
TV station G1, shows
blurry footage of a disc-shaped object hovering in the clouds for a minute
or so -- before disappearing in a bright flash of light, followed by a trail
of colorful bursts.
But is it an alien
visitation, or merely the latest in a storied tradition of forgeries? G1's
anchors explain that two passersby saw the object as they were driving in
their car, near the town of Agudos in Sao Paulo state. They hopped out of
the car to shoot the video with their handheld camera.
According to the TV station,
the cinematographers reported the earth shaking at
about the same time the object vanishes in a blast of light, noting that
other people reported the earth moving in the same general area.
Video-editing expert Philip Cavaca told G1 that the film was a well-made
montage -- but a hoax nonetheless.
"It can be seen in one frame," he told the station.
"When the truck goes by, you can tell that the UFO was
moved, which is un-noticeable to the naked eye," he
said. According to Cavaca, by freezing the
image you can see the exact frame in which the "UFO" alters.
Watch the UFO video
and judge for yourself at G1.globo.com.

February 25 - Russia unveils huge rearmament drive
Article: Wars And Rumors Of Wars
The ambitious
overhaul will cost the equivalent of £406 billion and comes at a
time when other countries around the world such as Britain are
cutting their defence spending to try to balance their national
budgets. But with oil prices rising,
Russia,
the world's biggest energy exporter,
feels confident it can afford to upgrade its
dilapidated Soviet-era military and believes
it urgently needs to do so in order to confirm its
self-proclaimed status as a major world power.
Vladimir Popovkin,
Russia's deputy defence minister, said
the rearmament programme would be sweeping.
"The main task
is the modernisation of the armed forces," he
said. "Nineteen trillion roubles
(£406 billion) will be allocated for this. We are not interested in
purchasing any foreign weapons or military equipment."
Deputy defence
minister Vladimir Popovkin boasted that the shopping spree
would reshape the Russian navy, giving it 35 new corvettes, 15
new frigates and 20 new submarines, eight of which
would be nuclear-powered and armed. In
total, he estimated, the navy, which is currently badly trailing
the US navy in terms of modern ships,
would take delivery of 100 new vessels before 2020.
Russia's air
force, which performed inconsistently during the country's brief
and victorious war against Georgia in 2008,
will also be refitted and be given 600 new planes and 1,000 new
helicopters before 2020.
The planes
will mostly be modern Sukhoi 34 and 35 fighters, while the
helicopters will include Mi-8 helicopter gunships and the bigger
Mi-26 heavy lift cargo helicopters.
The country's fearsome TU-160 strategic nuclear bombers, the
same planes that have begun to probe the limits of the UK's
airspace in recent years, will also be completely modernised.
Much of the
enormous spend will be channelled into Russia's strategic
missile forces with several hundred mobile S-400 and S-500
defence missile systems on order
and a new intercontinental ballistic
missile in development capable of carrying ten nuclear warheads.

February 21 - California School District Battles Truancy with GPS
Article: Miscellaneous
Students with a tendency
towards truancy in California's Anaheim Union High School District
are being assigned GPS units to make
sure they're going to school on time, according to
The Orange County
Register.
The GPS units are the size of a (chunky) cellphone
and are developed by Dallas-based
AIM Truancy Solutions,
which operates in more than 100 middle and high schools in three states.
The Anaheim Union High
School District is part of a volunteer six-week pilot program that
is outfitting seventh and eighth grade students who have more than three
unexcused absences with these devices. In Austin,
Texas,
where
this experiment also ran,
it was used for middle and high school students who had racked up
between 20 to 25 absences.
When
asked by the
Orange County Register
why the devices are handheld rather than strapped to the students,
Miller Sylvan, regional director of AIM Truancy Solutions, said,
"We don't want to criminalize the kids or
have them wear any bracelet or something around their ankle that would
stigmatize them."
Every school day, the
participants receive an automated phone call reminding them to get to
school on time. They are then required to enter a
code that tracks their location during their departure for school,
arrival at school, lunch period, departure from school and at 8 p.m.,
the Register reports.
But perhaps
carrying a GPS unit and regularly
logging one's location is better than the alternative:
Police Investigator Armando Pardo told the Register that if the
District Attorney prosecutes, truant students could be sent to juvie and
get smacked with a $2000 fine.

February 28 - Buddhists and Christians pray together for religious freedom in places where Buddha lived
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Christianity Uniting With Other Relgions
Hundreds of Buddhist
religious leaders from around the world met in Nepal last Thursday and
Friday. They were joined by Christian and
Hindu religious leaders. The purpose of the event was to pray together for
peace and greater religious freedom for minorities.
The two-day meeting began
at the Buddhist temple in Bauddhanath (Kathmandu) and ended in Lumbini, the
birthplace of Gautama Buddha. Organised by the Buddhist World Peace
Association, the initiative will go on the
road to Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, South Korea and other predominantly
Buddhist nations. It will also travel to an additional 50 nations.
According to Kenseng
Lama, one of the organiser of the Nepali event, the prayer meeting is meant
to counter rising conflicts and the repression of religious minorities. The
initiative will be taken to countries where religious freedom is violated,
like Myanmar. Slogans will change in such locations to avoid friction with
the authorities. "We Nepalis prayed to see the right to freedom of religion
enshrined in a new constitution," Lama said.
A number of Christian religious leaders, both Catholic and
Protestant, joined Buddhist religious leaders in prayer vigils.
"We support the event," said Binod
Thapa, a Protestant leader, "because like
Buddhists we want more religious freedom."
"Under the new
government, minority rights and the separation between state and religion
are among the new founding principles of the new constitution," he noted.
Yet, Christians in Kathmandu and other Nepali cities
still do not have a place to bury their dead, and are still threatened by
Hindu extremists.

March 1 - Food prices to skyrocket, riots could follow, suggests USDA
Article: Signs Of The Last Times
When the upswing in commodity
prices eventually makes its way throughout the food system in
mid-to-late 2011, food prices are sure to spike with levels
potentially reaching those of 2008,
announced U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) economist
Ephraim Leibtag at the agency's annual Outlook Forum. And
if conditions escalate rapidly,
there is also the potential for food riots and other civil
unrest.
The USDA is
predicting a 3.5 percent increase in food prices in 2011, which
is about twice the overall inflation rate but less than the 2008
increase, according to a recent Reuters
report. In 2008,
food prices
rose 5.5 percent, which represents the highest increase since
1990. But the possibility of food
prices
dramatically rising in
2011
like they did in 2008 is a definite possibility.
Leibtag also explained the agency's
expectation of a four percent rise in costs for meats, poultry,
and fish; a 3.5 percent increase for fruits and vegetables; a
four percent increase for cereals and bakery products; and a
three percent increase in sugar and sweets costs.
All increases
represent anywhere from a 20 to 60 percent increase over last
year's increases.
In 2008,
food
shortages and rapid price increases
led to riots in 25 different countries
around the world. And the same may happen again, including even
in the US, due to factors like the
devaluation of the dollar, crop losses, rising oil costs, and
other economic factors (http://www.naturalnews.com/031408_f...).
The warning serves as a wake-up call to Americans to take back
their land and begin growing more food on the local and regional
scale. According to statistics from Farm Aid, a family
farming
advocacy group, roughly five million US
farms have been lost since the 1930s, and about 330
farmers
every week leave their land. If this trend continues, the
situation will only worsen.
Factory farming operations have essentially replaced
local farming throughout the country.
And government policies like
subsidization of genetically-modified (GM) crops only continues
to drive small-scale farmers off their land and exacerbate the
problem.

March 1 - Peace in a Globalized Economy with Tony Blair
Article: One World Religion
Dr.
Rick Warren and Saddleback Church will host Tony Blair on Sunday,
March 6 at the Civil Forum on Peace in A Globalized
Economy. At the Forum, Warren will engage Blair, who served as Prime
Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1997 to June 2007, in candid
conversation regarding his work in the Middle East
peace process, and his role as the founder of the Tony Blair Faith
Foundation.
"We are honored to have Tony Blair join us
for this Civil Forum," said Rick Warren, founding pastor
of the Orange County, Calif., mega church and author of the best-selling
book, "The Purpose Driven Life." "His work as Prime Minister
has truly contributed to subjugating the five global
giants, which we work to fight in the Saddleback PEACE Plan. I am looking
forward to engaging in discussion regarding how government, business and the
Church can continue to help efforts toward peace."
Warren and Blair will talk about efforts to
alleviate the five global giants Warren has identified in his PEACE Plan,
including pandemic diseases, extreme poverty, illiteracy, self-centered
leaders and spiritual emptiness. Warren's PEACE Plan
seeks to mobilize millions of Christians around the
world to Promote reconciliation, Equip servant leaders,
Assist the poor, Care for the sick and Educate the next generation.
"As my wife Kay and I
have been implementing the PEACE Plan in 68
developing countries, we have seen first-hand many of the hundreds of
thousands of lives that have been changed through Prime Minister Blair's
efforts," Warren said.
"I hope that this Forum will enlighten American people on Mr. Blair's work
in partnering and bringing about this process of change."
At the upcoming Civil Forum, Blair is expected to discuss the situation in
the Middle East, and its impact not only on the region but in the wider
world. He will also discuss the challenges that globalization brings to the
modern world, and the reasons why he has set up his
Faith Foundation as a way of building peaceful co-existence and
understanding of why religion matters in the world.
The event will be held in
the main auditorium of Saddleback Church on March 6 at 6:00 p.m. PDT. All
free tickets were distributed to Saddleback Church attendees. No additional
general admission tickets are available. Saddleback Church will have
overflow venues available on the Saddleback Campus for anyone wishing to
view the event via video feed and will also stream live online at

February 25 - Placing the Crucifix at the Center of the Altar
Article: Roman Catholc Church And The Last Days
Comment from Understand the Times:
IN THE PAST
WHEN WE HAVE COMMENTED ON THE UNBIBLICAL DOGMAS AND OCCULTIC
PRACTICES OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN THE NAME OF CHRIST, WE
HAVE BEEN ATTACKED BY ROMAN CATHOLICS WHO SAY WE ARE "BASHING" THEM.
THEREFORE, WE WILL MAKE NO COMMENT ON THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE
Throughout
its history, the Church has established sensible
signs that would help the faithful to elevate their
souls to God.
The
Council of Trent, referring in particular to the
Holy Mass, motivated this habit by recalling that
"human nature is such that it
cannot be easily elevated to the meditation of
divine things without external aids:
on account of this the Church, as a
loving Mother, has established certain rites.to
render more evident the majesty of such a great
sacrifice and to introduce the minds of the
faithful, with these visible signs of religion and
piety, to the contemplation of the sublime realities
hidden in this sacrifice" (DS,
1746).
One of the
oldest signs consists in
turning to the east to pray.
The east is symbol of Christ, the sun of justice.
"Erik Peterson demonstrated the close connection
between prayer toward the East and the cross,
evident connection at the latest for the post
Constantinian period.
We limit
ourselves to conclude quoting Benedict XVI: "It is
not necessary in prayer, and more than that,
it is not even appropriate to
look at one another reciprocally; much less so when
receiving Communion. [...] In an exaggerated
and misunderstood implementation of 'celebration
toward the people,' in fact, the
crosses at the center of the altars were removed as
a general norm -- even in the basilica of
St. Peter in Rome --
so as to not obstruct the view
between the celebrant and the people. However, the
cross on the altar is not an impediment to sight,
but rather a common point of reference.
"It is an
'iconostasi' that remains open, which does not
impede being mutually in communion, but is a
mediator and still signifies for everyone the image
that concentrates and unifies our sight. I dare to
propose the thesis that the cross on the altar is
not an obstacle, but the preliminary condition for
the celebration 'versus populum.' Also
made clear with this would be the distinction
between the liturgy of the Word and the Eucharistic
prayer. Whereas the first is about
proclamation and hence of an immediate reciprocal
relationship, the
second has to do with community adoration in which
all of us continue to be under the invitation: 'Conversi
ad Dominum' -- let us turn toward the Lord; let us
convert to the Lord!" ("Teologia
della Liturgia," p. 536).

March 3 - New American Bible changes some words such as "holocaust"
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days
Comment from Understand the Times:
UTT has a
question: who gives the pope, or perhaps the pope's men (the
Jesuits), the right to change the original meaning of words in the
Bible to fit the Roman Catholic view of things that is unbiblical?
So what is next on the list? Will they try and make the word of the
pope the Word of God? It seems like they are trying to make the Word
of God the words of men and women! Will anyone stand up and protest?
A new edition of one the
most popular English-language Bibles
will offer substitutes for words such as "booty" and
"holocaust" to better reflect modern understanding,
a Catholic group said on Wednesday.
Nearly 50
scholars from all faiths and a committee
of Roman Catholic bishops have labored since 1994 over the first
fresh edition of the New American Bible since 1970, the
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said.
The annual best-seller
to be issued by a dozen publishers beginning next week on Ash
Wednesday "is a beautiful
translation -- it's a new way to look at an old love,"
said Mary Sperry, who oversees Bible licensing for
the bishops.
The changes go beyond a few words being
altered, and include freshly-written notes that should help
readers better understand the Catholic church's interpretation
of biblical concepts, Sperry said. The Book
of Psalms contains over 70,000 words, both text and notes, she
said.
For example, the word
"holocaust," which for most people refers to the World War Two
genocide of Jews, was changed to "burnt
offerings," which clarifies the original, positive idea of
making offerings to God. "Booty," which has come to have
a sexual connotation, was changed to
"spoils of war;" and "cereal," which many think of as breakfast
food, became "grain" to reference loads of wheat.
In a change in a
passage in Isaiah 7:14 that foretells the coming of Jesus and
his birth to a virgin mother, the 1970
edition's reference to "the virgin" will become "the
young woman," to better translate the Hebrew word "almah."
The new edition will
revert to more poetic versions of Psalm 23
to have it read, "I walk through the valley of the shadow of
death," instead of "dark valley." And "I will dwell in the house
of the Lord for years to come" was changed to "for endless
days," which Sperry said carried a more profound and hopeful
meaning.

March 6 - TSA, DHS plan massive rollout of mobile surveillance vans with long-distance X-ray capability, eye movement tracking and more
Article: One World Government
Newly-released documents obtained by the
Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) reveal that the US
Depart of Homeland Security has been working on plans
to roll out a new wave of mobile surveillance
technologies at train stations, stadiums and streets.
These new technologies will track your eye
movements, capture and record your facial dimensions for
face-recognition processing, bathe you in X-rays to look under your
clothes, and even image your naked body using whole-body infrared
images
that were banned from consumer
video
cameras because they allowed the camera owners to take "nude"
videos
of people at the beach.
Most importantly, many of these technologies
are designed to be completely
hidden, allowing the
government
to implement "covert inspection of moving subjects." You could be
walking down a hallway at a sports stadium, in other words, never
knowing that you're being bathed in
X-rays
from the Department of
Homeland Security,
whose operators are covertly looking under your clothes to see if
you're carrying any weapons.
According to a Forbes.com article (http://blogs.forbes.com/andygreenbe...),
one project pursued by DHS using technology from Siemens would
"mount backscatter
x-ray scanners and video cameras on roving vans, along with other
cameras on buildings and utility poles,
to monitor groups of pedestrians, assess what
they carried, and even track their eye movements."
Another project
involved developing "a system of
long range x-ray scanning to determine what metal objects an
individual might have on his or her
body
at distances up to thirty feet."
Under the new Janet Napolitano regime,
all Americans are now considered potential
terrorists, and anyone can be subjected
to government-sanctioned
radiation
scanning at any time, without their knowledge or approval.
And don't think these efforts will be limited merely to backscatter
technology: The
TSA
is now testing full-power, deep-penetrating X-ray machines (like the
ones that deliver chest X-rays in hospitals)
in order to check
people for bombs they may have swallowed. Yes, Janet Napolitano now
wants to look inside your colon!
And they're willing to X-ray everyone -- without
their consent -- in order to do that.

March 5 - Monstrance blessed by John Paul II used at St. Mary Magdalene church
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days
Comment
from Understand the Times:
If you
read the following article then there is no need for a comment. If you
can find any hint of biblical Christianity in the belief that you can
place Jesus Christ in a container to worship and adore, please let us
know and we will be glad to take down the article. Sometimes, it is
better to let the deceived explain what they believe themselves than it
is to help them out. Therefore, no further comment.
A monstrance blessed by
Pope John Paul II was used recently in worship at St. Mary Magdalene
Catholic Church. The monstrance --
which holds the Eucharistic host -- was blessed by
the late pope in 2004. The monstrance was used when St. Mary Magdalene
had the honor to sponsor a series of holy hours to
promote Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations Awareness to the Ordained
Ministry and Consecrated Life.
Catholics believe
since the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, when Jesus broke the bread and
distributed the wine, the actual
elements of bread and wine retain their appearance, but are
transubstantiated into the body and blood of Christ. Catholicism teaches
that ordained priests, during the rite of ordination after the prayer of
consecration, receive the power from the Holy Spirit to transform this
physical appearance into Christ's body and blood.
Eucharistic Adoration
is, therefore, the act of focusing
one's attention on God in a consecrated host placed for veneration in a
sacred vessel called a monstrance.
On Nov. 24, 2004,
Pope John Paul II commissioned and blessed six
monstrances which were presented -- one each -- to six continents to
promote Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations Awareness worldwide.
The blessed monstrances serve as a symbol of the connection
between the Eucharist and priestly vocations.
Closing day on Sunday
included Benediction, or blessing of the congregation, with the Blessed
Sacrament exposed in the monstrance by Deacon Dave Sandlin. Use of a
cope -- a cloak like vestment -- and humeral veil -- a scarf-like
liturgical garment -- so that out of
respect no hands touch the monstrance, are a custom of the ritual.
The experience of this worship-filled week of
adoration helped those present to see the deep love and reverence that
faithful Catholics have for God and His church. The
events offered an opportunity for worshippers to join together in prayer
-- asking God to send more laborers into the harvest and
to simply come to adore and be with Jesus and
learn from Him through silent prayer.

March 2 - Droves of bald eagles dropping from skies in Canada
Article: Signs Of The Last Tmes
Bald eagles in the Comox
Valley of British Columbia, Can., are having a difficult time finding
food these days. A recent report in The Province explains that
the birds are literally starving and
falling from the sky, adding to the string of strange
animal events that has occurred in numerous places around the world in
the past few months (http://www.naturalnews.com/031041_a...).
"This is the most we have ever had,"
said Maj Birch, manager of the Mountainaire Avian
Rescue Society, concerning
the excessive number of starving
and dying eagles the group has seen in recent days.
"Many of them are downed before
they are brought in. They are on the ground and they're too weak to fly
away. Some of them are actually falling out of the sky."
According to reports, the center has taken in roughly 20 bald eagles
since the beginning of the year, many
of them severely malnourished, lacking body
fat,
laden with parasites, and generally in poor health. And while a certain
number of them normally end up in the center every year, the rate thus
far in 2011 is abnormal.
Bald eagles in the region typically feed on chum
salmon
because the fish are rich in necessary oils and fats that help keep the
birds sustained throughout the winter. But
experts
believe that poor stocks of chum salmon last year
have left the birds without enough
food
this year, which has driven many of them to local landfills to scavenge
through the trash. "If they can't find the carrion (meat), they
go to the dump, and the problem with the dump ...
is you get a lot of poisoning," said Robin Campbell from the
North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre in Errington, to The Province.
Experts say the lack of chum salmon is

March 2 - 'Extend Catholic-Jewish amity to Islam'
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Other Religion Uniting With Roman Catholics
The historic
reconciliation between Jews and Roman Catholics over the past 40 years
should be extended to Muslims to deal with the challenges of
the 21st century, a senior Jewish official has said.
The regular dialogue the two faiths have
maintained since the Catholic Church renounced anti-Semitism at the Second
Vatican Council, should be "a model for
transformed relations with Islam," Rabbi Richard Marker
told an interfaith conference.
"The focus of the
world is no longer specifically on Jewish- Christian amity. We must, for so
many reasons, involve the third of our Abrahamic siblings... Islam."
Christian and Jewish
leaders increasingly meet their Muslim counterparts to seek common ground
and better understanding, but none of these discussions have the
history or depth of the Catholic-Jewish dialogue officially begun in 1971.
In those 40 years, the Catholic Church has
apologized for its sins against the Jewish people
and recognized Judaism as its spiritual "elder brother," a step that Jewish
leaders praise as a historic change in perspective.
"Many Jews have organized Jewish-Catholic
dialogue so it is totally focused on what we Jews think are Christian
failures," he said. "This situation cannot continue
much longer." Catholic officials were unlikely to want to continue
such a one-sided dialogue, he said, and some Jews see the need to define
their role in an increasingly pluralist world.
