December 5 - 2013 marks record year for the number of volcanoes erupting across the planet
Article: Signs Of The Last Times

This year will go down on record, as seeing the most volcanic eruptions recorded in modern history. The previous number was set in 2010, at 82 volcanic eruptions for the year. The number of volcanoes erupting across the planet has been steadily rising from a meager number of just 55 recorded in 1990.

While most scientists may readily dismiss any significance to the latest figures and may be quick to say the planet is just experiencing normal geological activity, it does raise other concerns about just what may be transpiring within the interior of our planet.

December 6 - Israel-Palestinian peace 'close', John Kerry says
Article: Israel And The Last Days

Israel and the Palestinians are within touching distance of a breakthrough agreement that would end their historic conflict, John Kerry, the US secretary of state, has said. America's top diplomat struck an unexpectedly upbeat note at the end of a 36-hour visit - his eighth to the region this year - that was billed in advance as an attempt to rescue peace talk mired in crisis.

"I believe we are closer than we have been in years to bringing about the peace and the prosperity and the security that all of the people of this region deserve and have been yearning for," Mr Kerry said at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport, adding that he expected to make a return visit in the next two weeks. "The naysayers are wrong to call peace in this region an impossible goal."

December 9 - Google's future: microphones in the ceiling and microchips in your head
 Article: Miscellaneous

"I don't have a microchip in my head - yet," says the man charged with transforming Google's relations with the technology giant's human users. But Scott Huffman does envisage a world in which Google microphones, embedded in the ceiling, listen to our conversations and interject verbal answers to whatever inquiry is posed.

Huffman, Google's engineering director, leads a team tasked with making conversations with the search engine more reflective of the complex interactions people enjoy with each other. "Computing is becoming so inexpensive that it's inevitable that there will be a ubiquity of connected devices around us, from our lapel to our car to Google Glass [a new optical head-mounted computer]," said Huffman during a visit to the UK from the company's California base.
