January 22 - Blimplike surveillance craft set to deploy over Maryland heighten privacy concerns
Article: One World Government
A new kind of
surveillance craft known as Aerostats may soon be appearing in American skies.
Aerostats, are lighter-than-air craft that are tethered to the ground - are to
be set aloft on Army-owned land about 45 miles northeast of Washington, near
Aberdeen Proving Ground, for a three-year test slated to start in October.
From a vantage of 10,000 feet,
they will cast a vast radar net from Raleigh, N.C., to Boston and out to Lake
Erie, with the goal of detecting cruise missiles or enemy aircraft so they could
be intercepted before reaching the capital. This, in response to a perceived gap
in missile defense coverage in the area.
Aerostats have been used by the military before, most recently in Afghanistan
and Iraq where they have seen service in the protection of our military bases in
those parts of the world,
and these typically carried powerful surveillance
cameras to track the movements of suspected insurgents and even U.S. soldiers.

News Alert January 24 - Palestinian leader turns to Putin for Palestinian state, dumps US and Israel as peace partners
Article: Israel And The Last Days
The Chairman for the Palestinian Authority,
Mahmoud Abbas, launched a diplomatic offensive
on January 23, aimed squarely at John Kerry's US-led Middle East peace
initiative. His meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime
Minister Dmitry Medvedev leave little question as to his new direction, or what
he hopes to accomplish.
The move seems to have come as a surprise to,
and caught both Secretary of State John Kerry and Prime Minister Benyamin
unprepared. This, by itself would be bad enough, but also, the move seems to
have caught the intelligence agencies of both nations by surprise.
The two leaders (Putin and Abbas) almost
certainly planned in advance to drop their bombshell on the day both Kerry and
Netanyahu were otherwise engaged at two international events in Switzerland,
Geneva 2 on Syria and the World Economic Forum.

January 27 - Pope Francis' Homily at the Conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Misc.
Here is the translation of the Holy Father's
homily on Saturday at the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The Celebration of Vespers took place at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the
Walls in Rome. "Has Christ been divided?" (1 Cor 1:13). The urgent
appeal which Saint Paul makes at the beginning of his First Letter to the
Corinthians, and which has been proclaimed at this evening's liturgy, was chosen
by a group of our fellow Christians in Canada as the theme for our meditation
during this year's Week of Prayer.
This evening, as we gather here in prayer, may we realize that Christ, who
cannot be divided, wants to draw us to himself, to the sentiments of his heart,
to his complete and confident surrender into the hands of the Father, to his
radical self-emptying for love of humanity. Christ alone can be the principle,
the cause and the driving force behind our unity.
As we find ourselves in his presence, we realize all the more that we may not
regard divisions in the Church as something natural, inevitable in any form of
human association. Our divisions wound Christ's body, they impair the witness
which we are called to give to him before the world. The Second Vatican
Council's Decree on Ecumenism, appealing to the text of Saint Paul which we have
reflected on, significantly states: "Christ the
Lord founded one Church and one Church only. However, many Christian communities
present themselves to people as the true inheritance of Jesus Christ; all indeed
profess to be followers of the Lord but they differ in outlook and go their
different ways, as if Christ were divided". And the Council continues: "Such
division openly contradicts the will of Christ, scandalizes the world, and
damages the sacred cause of preaching the Gospel to every creature" (Unitatis
Redintegratio, 1).We have all been damaged by these divisions. None of us
wishes to become a cause of scandal. And so we are all journeying together,
fraternally, on the road towards unity, bringing about unity even as we walk;
that unity comes from the Holy Spirit and brings us something unique which only
the Holy Spirit can do, that is, reconciling our differences. The Lord waits for
us all, accompanies us all, and is with us all on this path of unity.

January 26 - Religious difference, not ideology, will fuel this century's epic battles
Article: One World Religion
The last weeks have seen a ghastly roll call of
terror attacks in the obvious places: Syria, Libya, Iraq and Lebanon, as well as
Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia and Pakistan. We can either see all of these acts of
killing as separate - produced by various political contexts -
or we can start to see the clear common theme and start to produce a genuine
global strategy to deal with it.
The fact is that, though of course there are individual grievances or reasons
for the violence in each country, there is one thing self-evidently in common:
the acts of terrorism are perpetrated by people motivated by an abuse of
religion. It is a perversion of faith. However,
security action alone, even military action, will not deal with the root
cause. This extremism comes from a source. It is not innate. It is taught. It is
taught sometimes in the formal education system; sometimes in the informal
religious schools; sometimes in places of worship and it is promoted by a vast
network of internet communications.

January 27 - Hamas Leader Claims Third Intifada Just A Matter Of Time
Article: Israel And The Last Days
Hamas leader Hassa Yousef told an Israeli news
agency on Sunday that a third Intifada, or Arab
armed uprising, is "just a matter of time." His remarks were made just one week
after his release from an Israeli prison, and moments after an official from
long time rival, Fatah, headed by Mahmoud Abbas, called on increased terrorist
attacks on Israel.
Yousef warned, "the
Intifada will not wait for anyone, if it doesn't happen today then it will
happen tomorrow, if not this month then next month." "Intifada" is an Arabic
term meaning, "shaking off the yoke."
