CHRISTIAN PAGANISM
If you can not accept the Bible literally about creation, at what point in the Bible can it be accepted? The Bible claims the fallen spiritual dimension is real and that it is an abomination to God. Can we believe this to be true? Or is such a view just old fashioned religion?
…………………………………………………………………………….
How should Christians view the Bible? Is it a book that can be superseded by people with scientific credentials? If the subject of creation can be refuted and explained away, what about other major themes found in scripture? What about the clear warnings that God has an adversary and that his agenda is to dupe Christians? Should we lump a belief in Satan together with the supposed “myth of creation”? Just at what point in the Bible do we begin to take it seriously?
We live in an age where the foundational claims of Christianity are being revised by leaders who claim the Bible needs to be updated. In many cases the argument goes something like this: The Bible is God’s word but don’t take it too seriously. We live in an era where God is doing something new. If you take the scriptures literally you will become a fanatic and isolate yourself from the real world.
Such reasoning may sound reasonable, but it’s not true. God is unchanging. His perspective of man’s sin does not altar. What was sin and an abomination to God in the past, is still sin and an abomination now. You can not revise God’s word to accommodate your life style or the direction society is headed. We must be obedient to what God has said.
There is one area that I am thinking about in particular. The scriptures are very clear that we are to avoid the influence of the fallen spiritual dimension. The god of this world, since the fall of man, has done everything he can, to influence the affairs of man. Over and over again we see that God warns his children to be aware of Satan’s devices and stay away from the pagan gods and their influences.
Over the years that I have been involved in Christian ministry, this is an area where I have seen incredible change. We live in a period of time that has been coined the New Age. When we examine New Age philosophy and practices, we see the New Age is not new. It can be understood in light of the past.
Throughout the ages similar beliefs have held billions of people in bondage to the devil and his realm. Our generation faces the same kinds of influences. However, rather than recognize the dangers based on the warnings from scripture, some, including Christians, get involved in embracing witchcraft and occultism. They believe it is just fun, fantasy or a pathway to a higher spirituality.
So how should we respond when we see Christianity joining hands with paganism? Obviously the very term Christian-paganism is an oxymoron. However, there are a number of indicators which show this trend is underway.
In the next few programs we will give a number of examples showing Christians are not paying attention to the warning we find in God’s word regarding what happens when man follows after the gods.
