Myanmar Update |
|||||||||||
July 12, 2008 We are grateful to donors all over the world who responded to the Understand The Times Myanmar Disaster Relief Fund. To date, over $25,000 of aid and support has been delivered and administered through our Understand The Times representatives in Myanmar to assist the physical needs of hundreds of people impacted by the storm along with the proclamation of the gospel. To see how the Lord has used this support and the results that have been reported to us has been nothing less than a modern day miracle. The best way to explain what has taken place is to have you read a portion of two letters that have been sent to us by our people. You will be able to read in their own words how God has been using their lives to be a blessing to others through your generous giving. We have removed names and places in order to protect our people. God is with us. And He is Almighty God the Father of all. Through your prayers we are doing well.
On Wednesday we went to ---- town. After we reached in ----, we had a beautiful time with the local people. The people really need the Gospel. There is a Pastor who sent by my church as a missionary there. We went to his in house and he instructed where we have to go. This time we decided to give money to them not more things. Because, they need money for their health care, to buy medicines, or to go clinic.
Moreover, now they are starting to build for their shelter (house) so they need to buy iron nails. Therefore, we just discuss and did it.
And we went to Villages by boat. By boat we ride 1:30 hour just to reach the one place and then we moved to other Village. Evening we return to ---. and this morning we arrived in Yangon.
We reached out 3 places.
1. --- third ward, poor area, We shared about God's love, pray for them, and we give some cloths, Soaps, Candles, Gas lighter, Noodles and Money Ten Thousand to each family for 25 families. They were very much thankful.
2. ---- Village, before the Cyclone, there were 110 houses. But now 44 houses remain, the rest were lost. From that Village died 196 people. We went there and share the good news of Jesus Christ after that we pray for them and give a gift to them to each house Ten thousand Kyats, Soaps, Candles, and Gas lighter. They were very much interested to hear the love of God. All of them were so happy and grateful. We had a good time with them.
3. And then we went to ---- Village, before the Cyclone there were 72 houses , now 69 houses remain. The rest were lost. From that Village died 179 people. There also we gather them and shared the Gospel to them and there also we did as before and we gave them Soap, Candles, gas lighter and money. All are Buddhist people. That was a great chance to be with them.
Thank you so much for your prayer and supports. We continue to pray that the Lord will touch their mind and heart that God is the Creator of all. --- Village, we didn't go but we met one person who is alone left alive. In his village before, 100 houses. But he alone alive. All were die. We encouraged him and tell God is the only Creator.
This is my country situation. Please understand our problems. We also grateful to you for your donors for this mission. I pray and believe that God will give you blessing more then before. We spent 15000 for this trip. Hope that God will do miracles upon them. |

This second letter is written by another member of our Understand The Times team. He along with several other brothers went to a remote are where the storm devastated villages and many people died. They were able to boldly share the gospel and provide resources for their needs. Please keep in mind that no foreigners were able to reach these areas. Those that went were Burmese Christians who have been able to come along side with assistance so that they could distribute this assistance to the needy. The majority of the people they were reaching out to were Buddhists who had never heard the name of Jesus. We also have a long term plan to follow up in the future with more assistance and the gospel. Here is the second letter:

The Team and Trip
On the 2nd of July 2008, the team took taxi early in the morning to go to …. area with one purpose which is to help the people affected by Cyclone Nargis hit which took place back in May. The team was made up of five including the local guide. The team consisted of (four leaders) plus the team’s guide.
Ngyi Nawng Village
We arrived ---- at about 11:30 and we had lunch. Having lunch at the guide’s house, we moved on to a village called ---- by floating raft (about 40 minutes). The village is occupied by 130 families. Only one woman was dead during the cyclone hit. However, all of their houses were destroyed by the storm. They have Buddhist monastery in their village also. And only this Buddhist monastery made by bricks could stand against the storm.
Financial Help Rendered and Gospel had been Preached
Our arrival to this village was welcomed by greetings from local folks. We called for and gathered the leaders and one person from each of 130 families gathered around us as well. As we prayed, …. stood to introduce who we are and why we are there and what we are doing and he shared the love of God and he was followed by ….. After sharing the redeeming love of God, ….. was followed by another team member by the name of …... After the delivery of the message, people responded to it by clapping their hands. These people have never heard the Gospel of Jesus before. It’s the team who brought the redeeming Gospel to them for the first time in their life and history.
Having shared the redeeming love of God, we then distributed to them the envelope that contained two Bible verses (John 11:25 and John 13:35) and 5000 kyats ( 5 $) to a representative of each of the130 families.
We do not doubt the work of the Holy Spirit in giving His special blessing of revelation upon His word. Below is the amount of money distributed to these people or how we spend the sum of 1000 $. These two letters will give you an idea how your donor funds are being distributed. We have an ongoing program to help with rebuilding houses and lives that were devastated by the cyclone Nargis. In the near future, we are planning to open up another Bryce Lodge for children that lost their parents in the cyclone, providing for them food, clothing and an education.

The pictures that we have included with this report will show you visually what God is doing in Myanmar, in spite of the terrible destruction and the very difficult situation the people live in. Again, we thank you for your support and prayers.
Sincerely in Christ,
