November 18 - ‘New norm’ currency system envisaged

THE next few months will be characterized by global discussions around “a new norm” in the currency system.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan told the press yesterday that while the recent G20 meeting had not been able to come up with conclusive agreements on currency dynamics, a lot of ground had been covered.

He suggested that the world was going through a period of transition to a new set of currency dynamics.

Gordhan said leaders continue to discuss what the right policy mix is that will enable them to move from “the old normal to the new normal”.
