Comment from Understand the Times:
Is the past pope really a saint or is he just a man who put his pants on just like any other man? Why is it that people are obsessed with following men? In the Bible, a saint is any person who places their trust in Jesus alone. The pope's motto was to "trust in Mary." So should this make him a saint?
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was Mary the mother of Jesus. She bore the Savior but she is not the Savior. It seems that Roman Catholicism is a religion built on the ideas of men who follow a man and not Jesus. If the Roman Catholic hierarchy makes Pope John Paul II a saint, they will have made a serious mistake
