During the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani of Lima said that the Virgin Mary's prayers safeguard women from the devastation of abortion.

“Mary is always protecting the wombs of our mothers,” Cardinal Cipriani said at Lima's parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12.

During his homily, he called the Virgin Mary “the great strength of the Church” as well as “the model woman and mother.”

The cardinal encouraged Peruvians to pray the Rosary more often and participate in Marian pilgrimages and processions.

“Let us resolve to love her more, visit her more, search for her more. She has asked us to pray the Rosary. Let us firmly resolve that Mary will never be left alone, that all women will have great devotion and affection to Our Lady of Guadalupe,” he said.

“Pray that the love of Mary will be a light in all parishes that leads us to Jesus and illuminates your homes,” Cardinal Cirpiani added. “When you have problems, pray the Rosary, like our grandparents did. Come to visit Our Lady of Guadalupe or place an image of her in your home.”
