The Vatican officially confirmed that the flag of the Holy See will be raised for the first time at the UN Headquarters.
The decision to raise both the Holy See’s and Palestine’s flag came following a unanimous vote by the U.N. General Assembly last week. Both are non-member observer states. The flag will be raised on the morning of September 25th, prior to Pope Francis’ arrival for his address to the U.N. General Assembly.
“The Holy See and the United Nations Secretariat have agreed that the flag will be raised with no ceremony. UN personnel will raise it at the same time they will raise the other flags that day,” a statement by the Holy See read.
The Palestinian flag will be raised on September 30th after President Mahmoud Abbas addresses the U.N. General Assembly.(J.A.E.)
